Ecodesign Directive 2005/32/EC - EuP
To protect the environment, the European Union has passed the EuP (Energy-using Products) - 2005/32/EC directive. This directive forces the manufacturers of electric and electronic products to keep within certain energy efficiency levels.
The directive has 19 different sections for different classes of devices. External power supplies are regulated under section 7. External power supplies need to have a maximum "No Load Power Consumption" and specific "Energy Efficiency under Load". The energy is the ratio between input and output power. The higher the efficiency, the lower the power that is wasted. This saves money, carbon emissions and so protects the environment.
The directive is in force from April 27th 2010. ANSMANN already has devices, for example the new APS power supply series, which are complying with these rules.
