SLA sizes
Sealed lead acid technology is one of the oldest and the most mature of all the rechargeable technologies available. The basic cell is only 2V in its potential and they are connected in series to generate 4V, 6V, 12V batteries. Refer to the construction of the battery.
These cells and batteries come in two shapes (cylindrical and prismatic/ rectangular) and several sizes as per their rated capacity.
Sizes of cylindrical SLA cells
| No. | Size | Diameter inch (mm) | Height inch (mm) | Weight oz (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | D | 1.35 (34.3) | 2.41(61.2) | 6.28 (178.0) |
| 2 | TD | 1.35 (34.3) | 3.78(96.0) | 9.6 (272.2) |
| 3 | X | 1.75(44.5) | 2.87(72.9) | 12.77(362.0) |
| 4 | E | 1.75(44.5) | 3.94(100.1) | 19.4(548.9) |
| J | 2.04(51.8) | 4.85(123.2) | 29.60(839.2) | |
| BC | 2.57(65.3) | 6.25(158.8) | 58.8(1669.2) |
(The height measurements do not include tabs of the cells)
Sizes of prismatic or rectangular shape SLA batteries
Prismatic or rectangular shape lead acid batteries are manufactured by many suppliers and they vary in the chemical composition as well as rating in regard to high discharge versus general category where low but continuous current is needed from the battery.
These batteries should be selected per their use. To choose the right battery, one should be aware of these parameters.
- Current required for use by application
- Temperature in which this battery is going to be used
- Charge current and how the batter is going to be charged
- Foot print or the shape to make sure it is going to fit in the space defined
Due to variance in the chemical composition and the thickness of the plates (electrodes) even the same size batteries will not perform the same way. Always consult us in case where you need further information that will help you choose the right battery.
